You'll find a good mix of families and older couples with some younger (in their 30s) mixed in, but you won't find many college-aged spring breakers. This means that evenings are pretty tame and child-friendly (you likely won't see people shot-gunning beers and cheering at the poolside bar). Americans make up the majority of passengers followed by Australians (thanks in part to Australia's proximity to Hawaii).

It's currently Carnival's oldest ship (it debuted in 1996 under the name Carnival Destiny). However, in 2013, the line gave it a $200 million bow-to-stern glow-up and renamed it Carnival Sunshine. The overhaul produced a new top-deck WaterWorks water park, a comedy club and several bars, lounges and restaurants. Norwegian Jewel might not have the extensive top-deck attractions of newer ships, like Norwegian Prima, or as many restaurants and bars. However, passengers will find plenty to occupy their time onboard with scheduled activities, a casino, spa and pool areas.

The food and stateroom experience felt budget-level, but the cruise cost was far from being a budget price. Although not as friendly and warm as on other ships, the service in the main dining room was fast and attentive. We missed learning about the countries where our servers were from, since they were all Americans, but minimal small talk and the lack of language barriers seems to really speed things up. We were encouraged to order as many items as we wanted and were regularly asked about bar service, which was appreciated since we had the beverage package and enjoyed trying some different cocktails with our meals.

Our balcony room sleeps two people comfortably and a third with the pull out sofa bed. It’s difficult for us to imagine trying to fit a third person in the room. It would definitely be tight particularly if the third person is a teen or adult.
This is obviously the best Bahamas cruise for lovers of all things Disney, including "Star Wars" and Marvel fans. Wish carries 4,000 passengers in cabins and suites designed to simplify cruising with kids. But never fear, adult Disney fans; you'll also find your spot on board.
It’s currently priced at $39 per person if you don’t have a dining package (but double check pricing in your online reservation or when you get onboard as things change frequently). As a generally less crowded alternative to the buffet for lunch, hit the Key West Bar and Grill for serve-yourself burgers, hot dogs, french fries, and deli style salads. We found the quality of offerings here quite good and never had to wait in line for food or a table. And if you have the Hawaii drink package, hit the adjoining bar for a North Shore Power (one of my favorite drinks onboard) or a red or white Sangria. Short sailings on this new ship will appeal to all sorts of cruisers. Historically, new ships are reserved for longer itineraries, so this is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a snack-size sampling of a brand-new ship without spending the money on a longer sailing.
The 2005-built Pride of America cruise ship is operated via the brand NCL America as a unique Project America-class (one-vessel only). Mandara Spa was the first place we visited after checking into our cabin, I wanted to make sure I secured a massage slot! The salon offers extensive treatments including massage rituals, pedicures and manicures and hair styling. Passes can be bought to access the new Thermal Suite with heated chaise lounge chairs, huge showers, sauna and steam room. Each main-stage show on Pride of America is on for one night and one night only (two-time slots), so mark your cruise calendar! We made it to four performances and thoroughly enjoyed them all.
Most of the common areas of the ship are decorated with bright, exciting colors. Generally speaking, the decor was in good taste and reflected the excitement and adventure of a cruise. In some ways, the Pride of America looked brand new – especially in the common areas such as dining rooms, shops, guest relations, hallways, etc. It was so fun having a Hawaii ambassador onboard to lead activities and lectures.

Additional health and safety precautions during the first half of our sailing due to a flu outbreak onboard (stay tuned for additional information and thoughts on this) also led to long lines and waits during peak times. The Pride of America has two main complimentary dining rooms, the Skyline and the Liberty. The Skyline is open for breakfast and they’re both open for dinner. They serve the same dinner menu and are available by reservation or by just showing up. For a more formal dining experience, opt for the Liberty restaurant for dinner.
The opportunity to add on a land portion to your trip to Hawaii either before or after your sailing, as well as overnights at several ports is a huge advantage to the Pride of America. As a martini lover, my favorite bar was Pink’s (although the service was slow at times), but I also loved several of the drinks unique to the menu at Key West. There are six specialty restaurants on the Pride of America, but we didn’t eat at any of them, instead choosing to splurge on our favorite Hawaiian specialties while at port (think shave ice, not spam).
If given a choice I’d take a 15 day cruise over a 7 day cruise any day. While cold breakfast items are complimentary (although I always tip delivery crew a few dollars), all other items will incur a $9.95 service charge per delivery (you can order as many items as you want).
It was usually four pages in length and full of great information on activities and entertainment. Most of the excursions we took were quite long and included lunch. Sometimes we had issues flushing the toilet and once in the middle of the night, we didn’t have any water at all.
Wednesdays and Fridays are the busiest nights in all extra-fee restaurants; Sundays are the slowest. Have in mind that not all specialty restaurants are open on embarkation day. The two MDRs, Skyline and Liberty, are one above the other, both located at the aft. These carry through Americana themes, with Liberty paying homage to American patriotism and Skyline serving as a Deco-version of NYC. There are pianos in both main dining rooms, and occasionally a musician provides background music for dinner.
